Kendall Phillips
Kendall R. Phillips is professor of communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. His work engages topics like public memory, popular film and popular culture. He has published several books, including: Framing Public Memory, Global Memoryscapes: Contesting Transnational Remembrance, and A Cinema of Hopelessness: The Rhetoric of Refusal in 21st Popular Culture. His essays have appeared in such journals as Quarterly Journal of Speech, Communication Monographs, and Philosophy and Rhetoric and he is co-editor for the “Rhetoric, Politics, Society” book series at Palgrave Macmillan and the “Horror and Monstrosity” book series at the University Press of Mississippi.
Phillips holds a Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University and previously taught at the University of Central Missouri. He is an Honorary Fellow in the School of Art Whiti o Rehua, College of Creative Arts, at Massey University (New Zealand), and honorary director of the Center for Rhetorical Studies at Shanghai University. He previously served as Co-Founding Director of the Lender Center for Social Justice and as President of the Rhetoric Society of America.
