CNY Vitals — Built by the Central New York Community Foundation, this data portal analyzes and tracks 70 data points on topics including the economy, housing, health, demographics, poverty and education in Onondaga, Madison, Cayuga, Cortland and Oswego counties.

CNY Vitals Pro — The specialized, drill-down arm of CNY Vitals built for grant writers, researchers, and community organizers, letting you view data by zip code or census tract across the same five counties. Best if you need neighborhood-level granularity rather than county averages. 

HealtheCNY — A regional public-health indicator dashboard (powered by the Conduent Healthy Communities Institute platform) that includes a Health Equity Dashboard categorizing indicators by health care access, economic status, and social determinants of health, and a Prevention Agenda Progress Tracker that benchmarks CNY counties against New York State's official public health goals, with color-coded (red/green/blue) comparisons to state, regional, and national values. 

New York Federal Research Data Center – A partnership between the Federal Government and leading research institutions, including Cornell University. Provides access to restricted micro-data sets with researcher permission.

Open Data Syracuse (formerly DataCuse) — The City of Syracuse's central location for open data, maps, and visualizations to help you understand what is happening in the city, includes datasets like code violations, vacant properties, and the tax assessment roll. 

SMU DataArts: Arts Vibrancy Index & Map — A comprehensive national dashboard with local drill-down. Examines the level of supply, demand, and government support for the arts across U.S. communities, using 13 unique measures covering supply, demand, and public support for arts and culture, adjusted for cost of living and population, with an interactive map letting you explore arts vibrancy scores for every county in the United States. 

NYSCA Grantees Map/Search Tool — The New York State Council on the Arts' searchable database of grant recipients, filterable by organization and region. 

NEA Grant Search and NEA New York State Profile — The federal counterpart to the Grantees Map/Search Tool.  

CNY Arts: Arts Research page — Not a live dashboard, but a curated local aggregator that hosts the Arts and Economic Prosperity IV study for the Greater Syracuse Area (2012, with Americans for the Arts and Le Moyne College) and the 2018 Arts & Culture Impact Report from Le Moyne College measuring the sector's economic impact in Onondaga County, plus demographic/audience research from the ENGAGE CNY initiative. 

NYS OCFS Child Care Deserts Census Tract Map — The most granular childcare access tool for New York, this site provides an online mapping tool showing child care desert levels by census tract across the state. 

NYS OCFS Child Care Facts & Figures (annual) — An annual overview of the New York child care landscape, covering regulated child care providers, the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) agency contracts, and afterschool programs, published yearly. 

NYS Child Care Regulated Programs Map — Facility-level information on OCFS-regulated child care programs, including overview information and violation history. Provides information on individual licensed providers in Syracuse alongside their compliance record. 

Head Start Program Information Report (PIR) — Provides comprehensive federal data on the services, staff, children, and families served by Head Start programs nationwide, including enrolled children experiencing homelessness, in foster care, and with disabilities. Drillable to the grantee level. 

Child Care Aware of America: State Fact Sheets / Price of Care — This state-level  dashboard is the standard source for childcare affordability benchmarking. Provides annual center-based childcare prices compared against state median income, with 1-50 state affordability rankings, and tracks year-over-year supply of licensed centers and family childcare homes. 

NYS Broadband Map (ConnectALL / NYSDPS) — New York's interactive map of high-speed broadband infrastructure availability and reliability, searchable by address. Good for checking service availability and speeds at specific Syracuse addresses. 

Beta ConnectALL Projects Dashboard (via ConnectALL/Empire State Development) — Tracks funded broadband projects under the Municipal Infrastructure Program and Affordable Housing Connectivity Program statewide.  

FCC National Broadband Map — The federal counterpart, useful for cross-checking provider coverage claims and identifying unserved/underserved Syracuse-area locations against the state map. 

disabilitystatistics.org — An interactive map that allows filtering for low-income populations, individuals with disabilities, veterans, rural residents, and aging. 

DisabilityStatistics.org — Run by Cornell's Yang-Tan Institute, this dashboard displays disability statistics by county, congressional district, or state using ACS 1-year and 5-year estimates, letting you customize charts by disability type, race, sex, or education for a selected county.  

Onondaga County Health Department – Data & Surveillance — Onondaga County's own surveillance program collects, analyzes, and interprets data on diseases, injuries, and causes of illness or death in the county, some of which feeds into disability-related health indicators.  

Census Reporter: Syracuse, NY and Data USA: Syracuse, NY — Free, visual ACS-based profile tools covering income, poverty, race/ethnicity, employment, and commuting.  

BEA Regional Economic Accounts — GDP by County & Personal Income by County — The core federal source for local economic output. Provides GDP for local areas with industries' contributions to each economy, personal income by county (wages, proprietors' income, dividends, interest, rents, and other income received by local residents), and regional price parities that let you compare price levels across metro areas. 

Federal Reserve Bank of New York: Syracuse Metro Economic Indicators — A regularly updated regional profile, broader than just employment. Covers population, population growth, and GDP for the Syracuse metro area alongside neighboring Rochester and Utica metros and New York State. 

NYS Comptroller Fiscal Stress Monitoring System — Tracks the fiscal health of local governments, a leading indicator of local economic conditions.  

U.S. Census Bureau: County Business Patterns (CBP) — An annual series providing economic data for establishments with paid employees by industry and employment size, including the number of establishments, employment, and payroll, down to the county and ZIP-code level.  

U.S. Census Bureau: Business Formation Statistics (BFS) — Provides timely, high-frequency data on new business applications and formations, now available as annual county-level data. 

CenterState CEO's annual Economic Forecast for Central New York - This a locally produced survey-based report — not an interactive dashboard. 

NYSED Data Site — Syracuse City School District Report Card — New York's official school/district report card, providing public data on staff, students, and school and district performance as required under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  

NYSED Parent Dashboard — A user-friendly companion to the full Report Card. Designed with input from parents and stakeholders, it makes school data like enrollment, average class size, test scores, graduation rates, school climate, demographics, and accountability designations easy to find and understand, including College, Career, and Civic Readiness scores (rated 1–4) showing how well a school prepares students for life after graduation.  

data.nysed.gov — "Education at a Glance" — The umbrella data site behind the NYSED Parent Dashboard. 

Say Yes Syracuse Report Card — A Syracuse specific education data source. 

NYS Council on Children and Families: Early Childhood Data Dashboard — Fills the pre-K gap in the education picture. Provides county and regional data on the number of children under 6, demographics, licensed childcare slots, and funded prekindergarten and Head Start enrollment, plus early childhood workforce data and ratings by county cluster.  

NY KIDS COUNT (Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy) — New York's official KIDS COUNT partner organization, combining data, analysis, and advocacy across economic wellbeing, education, health, and family/community domains, and publishing a County Data Book with child poverty and education indicators broken down by race and ethnicity for each of NYS's 62 counties.

NYS DOL: Labor Statistics for the Central New York Region — A regularly updated regional labor briefing.  

NYS DOL Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) Dashboard — An interactive Tableau dashboard with monthly and annual employment, unemployment, labor force, and unemployment rate data for New York State, regions, metro areas, counties, and municipalities of at least 25,000 people, including a county-level unemployment rate map. 

NYS DOL Unemployment Insurance Data Dashboard — Lets you look at benefits paid, beneficiaries, and initial claims by labor market region, industry, and program, updated weekly. 

BLS: Syracuse, NY Economy at a Glance — Federal labor and economic data with standardized metro-level employment, unemployment, and earnings series useful for comparing Syracuse to other metro areas nationally. 

Census Annual Business Survey (ABS) — Information on business-ownership demographics. Provides annual data on employer firms by sex, ethnicity, race, and veteran status, including minority-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned business counts, receipts, employment, and payroll, drillable to metropolitan/micropolitan statistical areas, counties, and places 

Census Nonemployer Statistics — Annual data on businesses with no paid employees, down to the county level, capturing the self-employed and sole-proprietor population. 

SBA Office of Capital Access: State and County Report — Summarizes SBA loan approvals by state and county, covering both regular and pandemic-era programs.  

SBA 7(a) & 504 FOIA Loan Data — Loan-level data for all 7(a) and 504 loans, updated quarterly, going back to 1991. More granular than the county summary above. 

Kauffman Indicators of Entrepreneurship — This state-level (not county) dashboard provides a national benchmark for entrepreneurial dynamism. Tracks the rate of new entrepreneurs, opportunity share of new entrepreneurs (business creation by choice vs. necessity), startup early job creation, and startup early survival rate. 

Feeding America: Map the Meal Gap — An interactive national map with county-level food insecurity estimates, refreshed annually. 

USDA Food Access Research Atlas — A mapping tool that lets you investigate multiple indicators of food store access at the census-tract level, incorporating alternative estimates of low-income and low-access tracts and offering contextual information for each one. 

USDA Food Environment Atlas — The county-level companion to the tract-level tool above. Lets you map a single indicator (e.g., number of farmers' markets, grocery store access) across counties, view all indicators for a selected county, and download the full dataset. Good for putting Onondaga County in context against neighboring CNY counties. 

Onondaga County Health Department: Mapping the Food Environment in Syracuse — The single most Syracuse-specific resource here. Combines USDA food desert data, CDC obesity rates, and locations of supermarkets, corner stores, farmers markets, and mobile markets, mapped by census tract and zip code, defining food deserts locally as tracts where the poverty rate exceeds 20% and a third or more of residents live over half a mile from the nearest supermarket. Not an interactive dashboard, but a granular report on the Syracuse-specific food environment. 

Syracuse Grows — A garden-finder tool and directory of community gardens in Syracuse. This grassroots nonprofit, founded in 2008, coordinates more than 20 urban community gardens across the city.  

USDA National Farmers Market Directory — Lists markets featuring two or more farm vendors selling agricultural products directly to customers at a common, recurrent physical location, searchable by location, with details on hours and accepted payment (including SNAP/EBT). 

NYS Farm Directory — New York State's statewide farm directory application, created to connect consumers directly to producers and identify CNY-area farms selling directly to city residents. 

NYS CHIRS Dashboard (Community Health Indicator Reports) — Tracks about 350 health indicators organized by 15 topics, with each of the 62 NYS counties getting its own dashboard for comparison against regional and state totals. 

Health Data NY — The state's open-data health catalog, with public-use files on hospital discharges, all-payer claims, COVID-19, and more that can be filtered to Onondaga/CNY. 

City Health Dashboard – An NYU Langone Health project gathering key data around health indicators for cities across United States.   

Syracuse Housing Data Resources – A City of Syracuse site containing dashboards on rental property, vacant buildings, code violations, and zoning in the City. 

Housing & Homeless Coalition of CNY (HHCCNY) — Publishes the region's annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count and Housing Inventory Count, the federally mandated census of people experiencing homelessness across Onondaga, Oswego, and Cayuga counties.  

HUD Homelessness Data Exchange (HDX) — The federal system underlying local PIT/HIC reporting (see, above); lets you pull Syracuse's Continuum of Care data and compare it to other CoCs nationally. 

New York of Conservation Voters Lead Service Lines Map – An interactive map of water service lines containing lead. Can be searched by address, city or town, county, or legislative district. 

Cornell ILR Eviction Filings Dashboard — A data tool operating at the intersection of legal services and housing. Using NYS Unified Court System data, it lets you generate a ZIP-code factsheet showing the rate of eviction filings per rental household alongside renter demographics, and includes a county-level "Eviction Filings by County" tool. 

NYS Unified Court System: Statewide Landlord-Tenant Evictions Dashboard (the state's own eviction dashboard, referenced by the Cornell tool above) — Provides a visual, county-by-county breakdown of eviction filings. 

NYS Eviction Tracker (Housing Solutions Lab / Furman Center methodology, adapted for upstate cities) — Aggregates New York State Office of Court Administration data on landlord eviction filings and warrants, with ZIP-code level data released monthly for each city in the state, including Syracuse.  

NYS OMH Needs Assessment Map — An interactive map displaying health- and service-related data at the county level, which also lets users view select OMH program locations.  

NYS OMH Vital Signs Dashboard — Presents the public mental health system's performance in select mental health programs, focusing on disparities in access, quality, and treatment outcomes among Medicaid individuals with mental health needs, 

NYS OMH Patient Characteristics Survey (PCS) — Provides a snapshot of people served by New York's public mental health system, with service trends in specific geographic areas compared to nearby areas and the rest of the state.  

NYS DCJS Index Crime Dashboards — The authoritative state source. DCJS provides Index Crime by County and Region (full-year historical data back to 2000), Index Crime by Reporting Agency (current year-to-date plus historical data back to 2010), and Violent Crime and Violent Crime by Firearm by County and Agency (back to 2015) in interactive Tableau dashboard format.  

NYS DCJS County Index Crime Rates — Calculates each county's overall, violent, and property crime rate per 100,000 residents using Census population data, letting you benchmark Onondaga County over time and against other NY counties. 

Open Data Syracuse — Crime Data — The city's own Part 1 offense data with latitude/longitude, letting you map incidents at the neighborhood level within city limits (complements the county/state DCJS figures above with block-level detail). 

NYS Open Data Portal — Syracuse PD dataset — Raw, downloadable Syracuse Police Department crime data hosted on the statewide open-data platform. 

NYS Opioid Data Dashboard — The state's comprehensive opioid tracking tool, with both state and county views. Developed by the NYSDOH Opioid Prevention Program to provide comprehensive data on opioid use and misuse, improving timely overdose reporting and supporting prevention efforts, the state homepage tracks 104 opioid-related indicators while the county dashboard covers 78 indicators, including enrollment in OASAS-certified substance use treatment programs by primary substance.  

OASAS Overdose Death Dashboard — Statewide overdose mortality tracker. Also breaks results out by racial and ethnic group. 

Onondaga County Opioid Epidemic Data Report — The most Syracuse-specific tool here. Pulls together data from multiple sources to show opioid-related deaths by year, drug type, and geography, with fentanyl's share of cases increasing over time, alongside naloxone administration by EMS, law enforcement, and community responders, and emergency department/hospitalization rates.  

NYS County Opioid Quarterly Reports — Provides opioid overdose deaths, ED visits, and hospitalizations by county, lagged only one or two quarters, making it the fastest-turnaround county-level opioid indicator available. 

V-START Dashboards (Syracuse University, D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families / IVMF) — Built in Syracuse, this dashboard allows users to compare up to three counties simultaneously across variables including veteran population, unemployment, and socioeconomic status, and includes a dashboard specifically on veteran unemployment rate distribution across counties and age groups, comparable against non-veteran unemployment.  

VA National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics (NCVAS) — The VA's clearinghouse for statistical analyses on veteran populations, including its data and statistics web portal and population projections. Its county-level veteran population maps and veteran households-with-children map can be filtered down to Onondaga County, and its Compensation and Pension by County and State reports give county-level estimates of veterans receiving VA disability compensation or pension, by disability rating, age, and sex.
